The event, scheduled for September 12th, will recreate part of the original route of that protest march which demanded freedoms after Franco's dictatorship. The 1976 Marxa de la Llibertat was one of the most significant demonstrations of the Transition, and this year has been marked by various commemorative activities.
Unlike previous editions, this year permission has been granted to hold part of the event within the Poblet monastery grounds, something that was not possible in 1976, when the march was halted by the Spanish police in Montblanc, nor in 2012 during another remembrance event.
The participation of prominent representatives from pro-sovereignty organizations is expected, including the president of Òmnium Cultural, Xavier Antich, and the president of the ANC, Josep Vila, as well as coordinators from youth language movements in Valencia and Mallorca.
The commemoration aims not only to recall historical events but also to highlight the enduring relevance of the values that inspired the March, such as the defense of the Catalan language, national cohesion, and democratic quality.
The event program also features the exhibition 'Marxa de la Llibertat, 50 anys (1976 – 2026)', the screening of the documentary 'Poble català, posa't a caminar', musical performances by singer-songwriter Pau Alabajos, and a guided tour by historian Josep Calvet.
The commemoration events began last Saturday, September 5th, with a round table discussion in Montblanc, where participants from 50 years ago shared their memories, moderated by Calvet himself.
This celebration, organized by a specific commission in the Conca de Barberà region, is supported by various entities including Òmnium, the ANC, the Memorial Democràtic, and the CAL, as well as the Consell Comarcal and the Montblanc City Council.
