The 14th edition of the Danseu Festival will transform Les Piles into a hub for contemporary dance from August 7-9. The festival will offer a total of 17 performances, complemented by art installations, community actions, training proposals, and participatory activities.
With a strong emphasis on proximity between artists, audiences, and the territory, the festival reinforces a model that prioritizes artistic quality, performances in unconventional spaces, and connection with the rural environment. This year's program features both established creators like Julyen Hamilton and Aina Alegre, and emerging voices in contemporary dance.
The theme #ComMires invites reflection on the different ways we observe bodies, identities, and relationships in today's world. This theme is explored in shows such as POV by Núria Guiu, examining identity in the age of social media; Una brillant imperfecció by Vero Cendoya, questioning discourses around disability; and the Catalan premiere of Sacresize by Alberto Velasco, confronting imaginaries of beauty.
Memory also plays a significant role with creations like Trementina by Berta Baliu, which revives the figure of the trementinaires (women who gathered herbs), and Solo for Barre by Julyen Hamilton, a tribute to musician Barre Phillips.
The festival strengthens its commitment to the territory through community productions. The opening will feature Inici by Mar Garcia and Javi Soler, developed with the Coral Oh! choir and the Orfeó de Santa Coloma de Queralt. Sfumato by Llum de Fideu, an itinerant performance, will also be presented, incorporating students from the Dance School of Casal de l'Espluga de Francolí.
Cia. Berta Baliu is also leading the participatory project El secret de les pedres, transforming the memories of residents from Conca de Barberà into an installation. Additionally, audiovisual pieces by young creators will be showcased through Danscroll, and a workshop-presentation of the book Anatomía inventada by Natalia Fernandes will take place.
The program extends to neighboring municipalities such as Conesa, Montblanc, and l'Espluga de Francolí under the umbrella of La Conca Vibra!. This cycle began on July 18 in Conesa with Xirinxina by L'Atapaïda, and will continue in Montblanc with Folk as Queer by L'Esbord and in l'Espluga de Francolí with Una brillant imperfecció.
Contemporary dance intersects with other disciplines such as flamenco and electronic music in FUGACES by Aina Alegre, or circus arts with CLAM by Cia. Fèmut. Other highlights include BAUNSBAK by Elvi Balboa, ERCÁS by Silvia Batet, and L'envers d'ici by the French company Ex Nihilo.
The festival nights will be enlivened by musical and participatory events such as Fiesta Intensiva by A Tempo de Furia, live electronic music by BALMA, and The Other Girls. DJ-formance by Lucio Vidal and Mikey Woodbridge.
Professional training will feature an immersive format with workshops led by international figures such as Alejandro Moya, Yazmin Iriel, and Julyen Hamilton, culminating in the public presentation of a creation developed by the participants.
