The inaugural day began with a technical explanation of the restoration works, presented by the responsible teams and the heritage councillor, Oriol Pallisó. Subsequently, the institutional inauguration, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, an open house, and a toast in the cloister took place.
The renovation was a comprehensive project lasting nearly nine months. Works included the restoration of interior and exterior facades, the creation of new access points, and the installation of underfloor heating in the central nave. The cloister's roof, which suffered from leaks and humidity, was also addressed.
A notable aspect was the recovery of medieval polychrome paintings on the 13th-century ceiling, which have been restored and consolidated. Additionally, the old chapel has been refurbished and will serve as a new multipurpose space.
The Montblanc City Council has also secured an agreement with the Generalitat, the building's owner, granting the use of Sant Francesc to the council for 75 years, a step considered crucial for continued access to further aid and ongoing improvements.
The project received a subsidy of approximately 3 million euros from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. This agreement with the Generalitat, the building's owner, for a 75-year usage concession is seen as key for future enhancements.
