A forest vegetation fire has necessitated the confinement of approximately 3,300 individuals in the urban area of Canyelles (Barcelona) and the surrounding urbanizations of Les Palmeres, Muntanya del Mar, Selva Meravelles, and California.
The Bombers de la Generalitat (Firefighters of Catalonia) received the alert at 5:04 PM and deployed nine ground units and two aerial resources to combat the flames. Due to the fire, which generated a significant smoke column, Protecció Civil (Civil Protection) issued a mobile phone alert to the area at 5:43 PM to order the confinement.
This confinement measure, affecting an estimated 2,398 people, instructed residents to close doors and windows, stay indoors, and follow authorities' guidance as a self-protection measure while emergency services worked on extinguishing the fire.
At 6:35 PM, firefighters declared the fire under control and confirmed the well-being of those confined within homes in the affected zone.
