The Sitges City Council has expressed its rejection and condemnation of the violent attitudes and disturbances that occurred on the morning of August 24, after the Festa Major concert on the Passeig de la Ribera and the closure of nightlife venues. These events led to serious public order problems and damage to public property.
As a consequence of this situation, the Sant Bartomeu Matinal had to be delayed until safety could be guaranteed. The dances and 'entremesos' (performances) were finally able to start at 07:15 AM with an adapted route that began at the City Council.
The municipal institution wished to express its support for the security forces, including the Local Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra and their public order units, as well as the System of Medical Emergencies (SEM), for their intervention in containing the involved groups and restoring order. The work of the health services and cleaning teams was also acknowledged.
The City Council highlighted the understanding and collaboration of the participating 'colles' (groups) and the work of the organizing committee, which kept the groups informed about the evolution of events.
Finally, the council reiterated that these incidents will not halt the celebration of the Festa Major, and thanked the responsibility of the groups that allowed one of the most emblematic events to proceed. The City Council advocates for a safe, respectful, and shared Festa Major.
