The Olivella City Council has developed a new technical study focused on road planning and safety, aiming to improve traffic flow, minimize accident risks, and promote safer and more sustainable mobility within the municipality. This comprehensive analysis examines the current state of the street network and proposes specific actions for both urbanizations and main traffic routes.
The diagnosis reveals that Olivella has a dispersed urban structure, with urbanizations connected by a network of streets characterized by winding paths and steep inclines, posing a challenge for internal mobility. Furthermore, deficiencies in signage, parking issues, speeding in certain sections, and significant limitations for pedestrians and cyclists have been identified.
Regarding road safety, between 2022 and 2024, a total of 21 accidents involving casualties occurred on municipal roads, predominantly run-off-road incidents. Although the annual number of accidents is relatively low, the study highlights the need for intervention in specific points to continue reducing accident rates.
The plan proposes several priority actions. One of the most significant is the remodeling of the intersection at Via Làctia, located in Les Colines. This intervention will include the creation of a mini-roundabout, the installation of new pedestrian crossings, and substantial improvements to signage to enhance safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Additionally, measures are planned to reduce speed in particularly sensitive areas, such as Mas Mestre Avenue and Os Blanc Street. Speed reduction elements will be installed on these roads, along with road-narrowing measures to encourage safer driving.
In terms of active mobility, the study advocates for improving pedestrian and cycling routes, especially in the Les Colines area. This will involve creating new pedestrian crossings, implementing traffic calming measures, and enhancing connectivity with planned future healthy and cycle routes within the municipality.
This Plan is part of the municipal strategy to move towards safer, more accessible, and sustainable mobility, complementing other projects and studies that the City Council is already deploying to regulate traffic and improve the public space of Olivella.
