The Vilanova i la Geltrú merchants' association, Viu Comerç, has joined the Language Volunteering program, promoted by the Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística, to strengthen the use of Catalan in the municipality's commercial sector.

This collaboration represents a step forward in promoting Catalan in local commerce. The Networking session, organized in September by the merchants' association, served to visualize this alliance and introduce the Consortium's work to attendees. The event also revealed the interest of some establishments in the training sessions of the Comerços aprenents (Learning Shops) program.
The municipality has reached a figure of 50 collaborating establishments in the Language Volunteering program. Among the latest additions are the cafeteria Club del Cafè, the jewelry store Happy Time, the Freqüències Music School, the brewery La Craft, and bicicletes Iturat.
Furthermore, the campaign "Encourage me to speak Catalan", launched jointly with the Hospitality Guild, has been well-received. A total of 10 establishments have already registered and completed the specific training, positively evaluating the practical learning acquired. This allows the restaurant sector to meet customer demand for basic Catalan knowledge among staff.
The collaboration between the Vilanova Hospitality Guild, Viu Comerç, and the Catalan Language Service also includes the monthly distribution of language postcards with specific terminology for commerce and hospitality to resolve common linguistic doubts.
