A wind-driven forest fire in Cervià de les Garrigues has resulted in a town lockdown and the precautionary evacuation of eight residents, affecting nine hectares.

A forest fire has broken out in the municipality of Cervià de les Garrigues, in the Les Garrigues region, driven by the wind. The blaze has already impacted over nine hectares of agricultural and forest land, near several farms and rural houses. As a precautionary measure, residents in the Partida de la Devesa area have been ordered to shelter in place, and eight residents have been evacuated.
Protecció Civil (Civil Protection) has issued an ES-Alert message to mobile phones in the affected area, instructing people to stay indoors and close doors and windows. The Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police) have assisted in the evacuation of residents and have implemented traffic diversions on roads LP-7032 (Albi-Cervià) and LV-7031 (Cervià-Borges).
Approximately 42 units of the Firefighters, including seven aerial resources, are engaged in extinguishing the fire. The mayor of Cervià de les Garrigues has stated that the fire is under control in its origin area and that homes are not in danger, although concerns remain about it spreading across the road towards the town center. The lockdown was requested due to the heavy smoke.
This is the second forest fire of the weekend in the province of Lleida, following the one that broke out on Saturday in Sanaüja, which destroyed 48 hectares. In parallel, eight firefighter units are also working on another forest fire in Vilafranca del Penedès, in the La Serreta area.
