With a program dedicated to volcanoes, health, biodiversity, natural risks, artificial intelligence, and the search for extraterrestrial life, the cycle kicks off this October. This initiative, now in its twentieth edition, aims to showcase current research and foster critical thinking through open and accessible conferences for all audiences.
The cycle's origins date back to 1996, with scientific conferences in Olot promoted by the Museu Comarcal de la Garrotxa and the Agrupació Astronòmica de la Garrotxa. In 2006, the Fundació d’Estudis Superiors d’Olot and the Museu dels Volcans officially launched the cycle, which has hosted over 180 conferences over two decades.
This year's program includes nine sessions covering diverse topics. The cycle will begin on October 16th with the conference “What is true about what we know about volcanoes? From urban legends to fake news”, by Meritxell Aulinas Juncà. Subsequent sessions will explore questions such as the possibility of finding life beyond Earth, medical innovation, biodiversity, quantum cryptography, geological risks, and artificial intelligence applied to health.
The program will also feature the presentation of the winning works of the Jordi Pujiula Awards and the results of the Oriol de Bolòs Scholarship for Natural Sciences. Conferences will be held one Friday a month at 7 PM in the Sala Magma at Espai Cràter. All sessions are free and open to everyone.
