The Mayor of Olot, Agustí Arbós, met last Friday, October 30th, in Barcelona with the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon. The meeting, held at the Department of the Interior's headquarters, was also attended by the Chief Commissioner of the Mossos, Sílvia Catà; the head of the Mossos d'Esquadra in La Garrotxa, Ovidi González; and the Deputy Inspector of the Olot Municipal Police, Ferran Arcas.
The mayor conveyed to the minister the need to reinforce strategic Mossos police operations in the capital of La Garrotxa, such as Plan Kanpai or multi-inspections in problematic entertainment venues and bars. It was guaranteed that these actions will be strengthened in the coming months to curb incivility and crime situations, a measure that Arbós considers "good news" for maintaining good security data and combating detected criminal hotspots.
Another issue addressed was the reinforcement of the Mossos staff in La Garrotxa. As the mayor recalled, about ten officers are still missing from the 20 that were committed to be added a year and a half ago. It is anticipated that the first police officers graduating from the academy next summer may be assigned to the region.
This meeting is the third between the Mayor of Olot and the Minister of the Interior in the last year and a half and is part of the council's initiatives to improve security. According to municipal data, in 2025 criminal offenses decreased by 11%, a decline that was consolidated in the first quarter of 2026, placing the city below a thousand annual offenses for the first time since 2016.
