The operations, underway in various sectors of the city of Girona and municipalities such as Quart, Sant Julià de Ramis, and Palol de Revardit, primarily aim to reduce the risk of extreme forest fires affecting neighborhoods, homes, and infrastructure. The total area involved will be 90 hectares.
The tasks involve selective forest interventions like brush cutting, tree thinning, pruning, and management of vegetation debris. These actions are carried out outside the peak fire risk period and are compatible with environmental values, as reported by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food of the Generalitat.
Containment axes are part of Catalonia's Sustainable Forest Management Strategy, designed by Bombers de la Generalitat (Generalitat Firefighters). This prevention infrastructure aims to limit the spread of major fires, reduce their intensity, and improve safety. Catalonia has 14 axes covering over 223,000 hectares of forest, projected to protect more than 2 million hectares and 870,000 people.
