In Girona, 81.44% of families have selected a public school as their first choice for I3 pre-enrollment, an increase from 79.52% in the current academic year. This percentage indicates a preference for public education nearly 15 points higher than the average in Catalonia, where demand has fallen from 67.28% to 66.57%.
At the Catalan level, the Department of Education received 51,630 I3 applications for the next academic year, with 34,369 (66.57%) for public schools and 17,261 (33.43%) for subsidized schools. In comparison, the previous year saw a total of 54,735 applications.
Education data shows that 90.3% of applications for the early childhood education cycle were met at the first choice. Specifically, for I3, 91.5% of students were admitted to their preferred school. In primary education, this figure is 63.3%, and in secondary education (ESO), it is 87.3%.
Regarding 1st year of ESO, the demand for public schools remains stable in Catalonia, with 87.63% of the 54,039 applications for the upcoming year, a slight increase from 87.49% in the current year.
Girona stands out as the territorial service with the most significant growth in public I3 offerings, with 269 planned groups, nine more than initially projected. The offering for 1st year of ESO also increases by three groups, totaling 250. This expansion is a response to the analysis of family preferences and identified needs, within the framework of the Pact Against School Segregation.
“"For three academic years, we have observed an increase in I3 pre-enrollments, but there is a decrease in educational offering groups."
The Fundació Escola Cristiana de Catalunya (FECC) points out that the educational offering ultimately determines demand, and many families limit their choices to schools where they believe they have a chance of admission, thus restricting their choice. The FECC calls for a better balance between family demand and educational offerings for both I3 and 1st year of ESO.
