Disney has officially announced the release date for its live-action adaptation of the animated classic Tangled. The film, which has transformed several locations in the Girona region into an extensive film set, will hit cinemas on March 31, 2028. The announcement was made during the D23 2026 convention, where the movie's first teaser was also unveiled.
Filming has taken place in iconic spots such as Girona, Besalú, and Sant Ferran Castle in Figueres. In Girona, the Old Town and the areas around the Cathedral were transformed over two weeks, involving hundreds of professionals and extras under strict secrecy. The streets took on a medieval fairytale appearance, with sequences recorded on Carrer dels Manaies and other key locations.
The production involved significant technical and human resources, including horses and specialized equipment. The company aimed to preserve the details of the production, one of its major upcoming projects, as much as possible. In addition to Girona, Besalú with its medieval ensemble and Sant Ferran Castle in Figueres have been used to shape the film's fictional kingdom.
The new version will star Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Although the release date is still about a year and a half away, the anticipation among locals, tourists, and onlookers has been considerable during the filming weeks.
