The traditional Docs del Mes series in Girona is changing its venue and settling at the Museu del Cinema. This decision comes after the closure of the Cinema Truffaut, which previously hosted the event. The series, known for presenting a VOSC (original version subtitled in Spanish) documentary premiere selected from top genre festivals, will resume its activities starting September 3rd in the cultural venue's assembly hall.
The move to the Museu del Cinema entails a significant reduction in capacity compared to the Truffaut's theaters. To mitigate this loss of seating, the organizers, the Museu del Cinema and production company Paral·lel 40, have decided to offer an online option each month in addition to the in-person screening. The intention is to maintain this dual format for as long as the Cinema Truffaut remains closed.
Consequently, while the previous venue held two screenings to ensure public access, the Museu del Cinema will only host one. This in-person session will take place on the first Thursday of each month at 7 PM. Admission will be free but will require prior registration. Furthermore, starting August 28th, the option to register for an online session will be available. Interested individuals will receive a link and a password to access the viewing, which will have a limited number of users.
The new phase of Docs del Mes will commence on Thursday, September 3rd, with the screening of "Amazomania", directed by Nathan Grossman. This Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian co-production, running 93 minutes, recounts how in 1996 a Brazilian official and a Swedish journalist documented the Korubo tribe in the Amazon rainforest amidst territorial conflicts. Grossman's current review of the footage uncovers the hidden costs of that expedition, confronting them with the colonial legacy and its long-term repercussions for the Korubo. The online session for this documentary will be available from September 4th to 18th.
