The bar-terrace at Girona's Parc del Migdia could temporarily close from September 12th, as the City Council will not have the new concession awarded in time.

The current concession for the bar-terrace at Girona's Parc del Migdia, managed by Ecobar Girona SL, ends on September 12th. The City Council has confirmed that the new tender will not be resolved before this date, which could lead to a temporary closure of the facility.
Municipal sources are exploring various provisional measures to maintain operations during the transition period until the new concession is awarded. However, no specific alternatives have been detailed, nor has uninterrupted service continuity been guaranteed.
The current concession, valid for 25 years from September 12th, 2001, stipulates that all facilities must be returned to the City Council in perfect working order upon expiry. The current concessionaire must vacate the premises.
The City Council approved the procedure to terminate the concession with Ecobar Girona SL last May. During the debate, the PSC expressed concern about potential delays in the new award, warning about the process's complexity.
Ecobar Girona SL had requested a three-year and nine-month extension to compensate for the pandemic's economic impact, but the council rejected it in May 2022, and a subsequent appeal was also dismissed in July 2023. The concessioned space covers approximately 350 square meters.
This situation adds to other recent concession issues in Girona, such as the Truffaut cinema, which has been closed since July 14th due to an appeal that suspended its award procedure.
