The presidency of the Girona Medical Association has urged the Generalitat to begin defining the funding for the future Health Campus and the new Trueta hospital to ensure its execution.

After twelve years at the head of the institution, the outgoing presidency has reviewed a term marked by the pandemic and the need for structural reforms in the healthcare system. Although the new Health Campus project is currently considered irreversible, the focus has been placed on the urgency of specifying the necessary budget items to prevent construction from stalling due to a lack of resources once the project phase is completed.
The assessment of recent years has also highlighted the strain on the healthcare system in the Girona region, exacerbated by a sociodemographic crisis and a shortage of professionals in key specialties. According to the association's leadership, planning has been insufficient, forcing reliance on doctors trained outside the European Union without adequate supplementary training on the functioning of the Catalan system and the language.
Regarding the future, the importance of maintaining a modern and accessible healthcare system has been emphasized. The new stage at the head of the association will be marked by the appointment of the first woman to the presidency, a change that reflects the growing feminization of the medical profession.
