The second quarter balance closes with 34,500 people without work, a figure that reflects a recovery compared to the first three months of the year, when the number of unemployed stood at 54,200. This decrease has allowed the unemployment rate to drop from the 12.5% recorded in March to the current 7.71%.
Labor activity has also experienced significant growth, with an increase in the employed population from 53.47% to 58.35%. In absolute terms, this represents the entry of 33,600 new workers into the market compared to the previous quarter.
The service sector remains the main driver of employment in the region, having added 22,400 jobs thanks to the boost from the tourist season. Currently, this sector accounts for 68.8% of the total workforce in the territory.
Other sectors have also shown positive results in this period. Industry has generated 7,500 new jobs, while construction has incorporated 2,600 people and agriculture has added a thousand additional workers compared to March.
