The Girona Art Museum joins the «Miró. Art i territori» cycle, an initiative by the Network of Art Museums of Catalonia commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Fundació Joan Miró. This collaboration brings together twenty Catalan art museums to celebrate the figure of Joan Miró and analyze his work from new perspectives, connecting his legacy with the collections of each institution.
The specific session at the Girona museum, titled «Miró, Urgell i les línies de l’horitzó» (Miró, Urgell, and the Horizon Lines), focuses on the artistic relationship between Joan Miró and the painter Modest Urgell. It highlights that Miró was a student of Urgell when the latter taught landscape painting at La Llotja school in Barcelona, and that he always acknowledged learning from him the importance of placing the horizon line in his compositions.
The dialogue will be led by Pepa Balsach, an art historian specializing in contemporary art and the work of Miró, and by the artist Cori Mercadé.
The event will take place on November 7th at 12:00 PM at the Girona Art Museum.
The complete cycle began on September 10th at the Museum of Modern Art of the Diputació de Tarragona and will conclude on December 12th at the Apel·les Fenosa Museum. All conversations and contributions from the cycle will be compiled in a future publication.
