The exhibition, titled This is Pop! Art and Pop Culture. From Andy Warhol to Takashi Murakami: the pop language that never dies, opened its doors last Thursday. This initiative by the Casa de Cultura aims to analyze the profound influence of the pop movement, which transformed the understanding of artistic expression from the 1950s of the 20th century and continues to be a driving force in contemporary creation.
The exhibition brings together over sixty-five works by thirty prominent artists, spanning from the origins of the artistic movement to its most recent expressions. Among the names featured are iconic figures such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Eduardo Paolozzi, Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, Yayoi Kusama, Equipo Crónica, Equipo Realidad, Eduardo Arroyo, Rafael Canogar, Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Yoshitomo Nara, Julian Opie, Shepard Fairey (Obey), Kaws, DFace, Boamistura, and Okuda.
In addition to the works of the pioneers, the exhibition also highlights how the spirit of pop has influenced more current artistic expressions, including urban art. In this regard, works by artists such as Obey, known for his campaign portrait of Barack Obama, and the renowned graffiti artist Banksy, with the cover he created for the album Think Tank by the band Blur, can be observed.
The exhibition will be open to the public until July 4. Those interested can visit it at the Casa de Cultura, located at Plaça de l’Hospital 6 in Girona.
