The Indilletres fair, now in its ninth edition, will be held at the Firal Pavilion in La Bisbal d'Empordà on December 5th and 6th. The event will bring together fifty-five independent publishers from across the Catalan Countries, as well as local bookstores La Siglantana and L'Esborrany. With 190 linear meters of exhibition space, the fair occupies a prominent location in the town.
The program will also extend to the Teatre Mundial and the Lluïsa Duran Library, offering seven self-produced debates, around twenty book presentations, children's activities, music, and two exhibitions. Indilletres combines the showcase of independent publishers with a cultural offering designed to promote reading in Catalan and foster reflection on literature, language, and society. This year's edition features five more publishers than the previous one, consolidating the fair's growth and its aim to give visibility to publishing projects that often struggle to access mainstream commercial circuits.
The presentation of the fair was attended by Eva Rovira, Councilor for Culture of the Town Council of La Bisbal; Xavier Cortadellas and Judit Pujadó, representing the Indilletres organization; Glòria Marull, First Vice-President and Regional Councilor for Culture of Baix Empordà; Mònica Alcalà, Deputy for Education and Youth of the Girona Provincial Council, and Òscar Aparicio, Mayor of La Bisbal d'Empordà.
The opening of this edition will be led by Guillem Nivet, president of La Bressola, coinciding with the entity's fiftieth anniversary. His presence underscores Indilletres' commitment to promoting the Catalan language and its vitality throughout the Catalan Countries.
The fair aims to concentrate the editorial showcase and a significant portion of the programmed activities in one space, offering participating publishers the opportunity to present new releases, establish direct contact with readers, and advocate for the diversity and vitality of Catalan publishing. Book presentations will take place at the Lluïsa Duran Library.
Indilletres was founded in 2018 by a group of local residents and Edicions Sidillà, with the support of the Town Council of La Bisbal d'Empordà. Currently, it collaborates with the Generalitat de Catalunya, Òmnium Cultural, the Girona Provincial Council, the Consell Comarcal del Baix Empordà, and the Federation of Commerce of La Bisbal d'Empordà.
The organization is preparing this ninth edition with the goal of positively contributing to the country's cultural landscape, promoting reading and giving visibility to independent Catalan publishers and authors, both local and from elsewhere, to foster a more participatory and open culture for everyone.
