Oncoswim Breaks Record: 118,000 Euros Raised for Cancer Research

The 10th edition of the solidarity swim between L'Estartit and Calella de Palafrugell brings together 33 teams and nearly 200 participants.

Oncoswim has achieved a new solidarity record in its tenth edition, raising 117,882 euros for triple-negative breast cancer research, the highest figure to date for this initiative.

The 30-kilometer open water swim, organized by Radikal Swim and the Fundació Oncolliga Girona, was the most attended in its history, with 33 teams and nearly 200 participants completing the route between L'Estartit and Calella de Palafrugell.
The funds raised will primarily go towards research into triple-negative breast cancer, with 70% allocated to the Oncology Precision Research Group of Girona (OncoGIR-Pro) at the Dr. Josep Trueta Biomedical Research Institute Foundation of Girona (IDIBGI) and the Catalan Oncology Institute of Girona. The remaining 30% will support patient support services for cancer patients and their families offered by the Fundació Oncolliga Girona.
The event began early in the morning with staggered starts for the teams from the port of L'Estartit. Swimmers navigated past the Medes Islands and the Formigues islets before reaching Port-Bo beach, where they were welcomed by family, friends, and volunteers in a festive atmosphere.
In addition to the main crossing, the Solidarity Mile between Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell saw 225 participants, also breaking its registration record. This event, along with personal contributions through the Dorsal 0 (Bib 0), contributed to the total funds raised.
