Record Catalan Budget: 49.162 Million Euros for Public Services and Investment

The new accounts reach a historic high, with a 22.8% increase to boost social policies, housing, and the economy.

The Government of Catalonia has approved this year's budget, reaching a record 49.162 billion euros, a 22.8% increase from 2023, to strengthen public services, housing, and investment.

The new budget of the Government of Catalonia reaches an all-time high of 49.162 billion euros, an increase of 9.126 billion (22.8%) compared to the 2023 budget. The main objectives are to strengthen public services, increase investment, and promote strategic projects in housing, infrastructure, and energy transition.
Three out of every four euros will be allocated to social and welfare policies. The departments with the largest allocations are Health (13.840 billion euros, +2.428B), Education and Vocational Training (8.356 billion euros, +1.642B), and Social Rights and Inclusion (4.248 billion euros, +930M).
In Health, Primary Care will be strengthened with an additional 616 million euros, and nearly 6,000 new staff positions will be created. In Education, 4,162 new teachers will be hired, and the budget for school transport and meal assistance will double to 253 million euros. Social Rights plans for 1,000 new residential places and an increase of 118 million euros in the cooperation contract with local entities.
Housing receives a record allocation of 1.9 billion euros to increase the social housing stock and facilitate access to affordable rent. Public investment rises to 4.146 billion euros to improve infrastructure and facilities, with significant allocations for schools (314M€) and health facilities (463M€).
The budget also allocates nearly 11 billion euros to policies promoting knowledge, the business fabric, water management, and energy transition. The 'Pla de Pobles' (Plan for Towns) (400 million euros until 2030) and the 'Regenera' program for rehabilitating degraded residential stock are planned.
The subsidies for the T-Usual and T-Jove public transport passes will be maintained (194 million euros), along with 355 million for Catalan Commuter Rail (Rodalies) and 185 million for the Local Cooperation Fund. New positions for the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police), Firefighters, and Rural Agents are planned, as well as investments in fire stations, police stations, and judicial facilities.
Investments in the Girona region include 30.6 million euros for hospitals and health centers, the construction of five new educational centers, and 341 social housing units in Girona, Salt, Figueres, Lloret de Mar, and Blanes. Funds are also allocated to roads, the PLEMCAT marine energy platform, and biomedical and food research projects.
