The Department of Education and Catalan teacher unions are in negotiations to avert further strikes, with a proposal that could increase teachers' monthly salaries by €548 by 2029.

This afternoon marks the seventh meeting between the Department of Education and representative teacher unions to seek an agreement that will end the series of strikes called until the end of the academic year. Salary improvement is a key point of the teachers' demands.
According to the latest offers, teachers could see their monthly salary increase by €548 by 2029. This figure is the sum of the state salary increase agreed by the Government of Pedro Sánchez for public servants and the latest proposals from the Catalan Government.
The proposed increase is broken down into several components: €220 from the state increase starting in 2028; €211 agreed within the framework of the 'Acord de País' (which some unions like Ustec, Professors de Secundària, and CGT did not sign) as a specific complement to be paid in 2029; and an additional bonus of €117 offered by the Catalan Government, which will start to be applied in 2029 (with €47 already in 2026) and will be of a general nature, not limited to specific tasks.
Furthermore, the Department of Education has agreed to address the so-called "stadium debt," a salary supplement consolidated every six years of service that was delayed due to the 2012 austerity measures. The commitment is to resolve the debt generated by these three years of accumulated delay until 2024.
The unions Ustec, Professors de Secundària, and CGT initially demanded a 100% increase in the regional complement, amounting to an extra €700 to €800 per month. Although a spokesperson for Ustec indicated that €400 might be acceptable, the Government's latest offer for 2029 stands at €328.
