The Audiencia de Girona (Girona Court) sentenced a man to five years in prison for sexual assault involving a minor friend, following events that took place in a city apartment on the afternoon of March 31, 2021.

The defendant initially faced a sentence of 12 years in prison for a crime of sexual assault against a minor under 16 involving carnal access. However, an agreement between the prosecution, the private accusation, and the defense allowed the sentence to be significantly reduced.
The accused admitted the facts before the third section of the Girona Court. Furthermore, before the trial, he deposited 20,000 euros intended as compensation for the victim.

The reduction in the sentence is due to the application of the highly qualified mitigating factor of damage repair, a key element in the judicial agreement.

This financial amount is intended to cover both moral damage and the sequelae suffered by the victim, which include post-traumatic stress disorder. The sentence, delivered orally by the court, is final.
