The Girona City Council and the University of Girona (UdG) have presented the first study on the social uses of Catalan at the city level, based on 500 face-to-face surveys to obtain a representative sample.

This initiative marks a milestone, as until now, this type of analysis had been carried out exclusively at the country or regional level. The study aims to offer a precise “radiography” of the linguistic reality in the capital of Gironès.
To ensure maximum representation, the 500 surveys were strategically distributed across different neighborhoods and age groups within the city of Girona.
Narcís Iglesias, director of the study and researcher at the UdG, emphasized the great potential that city councils have in defending the language. Iglesias encouraged local governments to implement concrete linguistic policies.
As part of the project, the other lead researcher, Carla Farreró, participated in an interview on Joan Bosch's program DE CAP A CAP, providing further details on the methodology and objectives of the research.
