Works carried out over recent months in various parts of the center of Cabrera de Mar have completed the main phases of the project to renew and improve the municipal drinking water network. The project involved an investment of approximately €500,000.
Tasks focused on the area around the Church and its square, as well as Anselm Clavé, Pare Jaume Català streets, and the Torrent de Sant Feliu. The deputy mayor and environment councilor, Meritxell Llisterri, explained that this phase directly impacted residents' daily lives and mobility due to the works' location in the urban core, traffic restrictions, and occasional supply cuts.
Although work in this area has now concluded and normality has been restored, the project is not entirely finished. The final section of Onze de Setembre Avenue remains, where pending tasks are currently underway to complete the planned interventions.
The project's overall objective is to modernize the municipality's water distribution network, reduce the risk of leaks and breakdowns, and improve its operation, efficiency, and reliability. Pipes have been renewed, connections made to the existing network, new pipelines installed, and affected areas restored and asphalted.
The phased planning aimed to balance the work with access to homes, traffic, and usual activities. The area's complexity, with numerous underground services, made this one of the project's most challenging parts. The removal of fences and construction materials, along with pavement restoration, has reopened streets to traffic, restoring normality before the school year began.
