October 2026 has been marked by extraordinary rainfall in various parts of Catalonia, with records exceeding five times the climatic average (1991-2020) in municipalities such as L'Ametlla de Mar, Les Cases d’Alcanar, El Perelló, and Cabrils, according to the report from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat).

The month of October has been rainy in Catalonia, but in certain areas, it has been highly exceptional due to various extreme weather events, particularly the mesoscale convective systems at the beginning of the month. The Baix Ebre, Montsià, Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Maresme, and Vallès Oriental regions have been considered extremely rainy. In the centennial series of the Fabra Observatory and the Ebre Observatory, October 2026 ranks as the second and third wettest Octobers in their respective 114 and 121 years of data. Conversely, the northwestern extreme has experienced a rainfall deficit.
Regarding temperature, the month has been warm in Catalonia, especially in the higher parts of the Pyrenees. The situation was characterized by a persistent anticyclone that acted as a barrier for a significant part of the month, hindering the arrival of both cold and warm air masses.
The weather station in Cabrils (Maresme) has recorded several rainfall records. On October 17, 2026, during a downpour in the Baix Maresme region, 37.8 mm were measured in 10 minutes, a new record. This station already held the records for rainfall in one hour (132.6 mm) and 30 minutes (84.8 mm), both achieved during the storm on October 12, 2016.
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has released its climatic balance for October, highlighting the extraordinary precipitation and the rainfall records achieved, thanks to the minute-by-minute data from the Network of Automatic Meteorological Stations (XEMA).
