The celebration has become a meeting space to share experiences, strengthen bonds, and highlight the role of the elderly in society. Although the forecast of rain forced the suspension of planned morning activities at the Sant Domènec stream, the meeting maintained its scheduled events at Vil·la Flora, including institutional speeches, a fellowship lunch, and a musical performance.
The day began with a welcome by Paca Sola and Ferran Medina, accompanied by members of the Maresme Elderly Consultative Council. This was followed by institutional speeches, with the participation of the Councilor for the Elderly of Canet de Mar, Àngels Isart; the second vice-president of the Catalan Council for the Elderly, Magda Bes; the Councilor for Rights and Services to People of the Maresme Regional Council, Marta Paset; the Director General for the Elderly of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Pedro Cano, and the mayor of Canet de Mar, Pere Xirau.
Mayor Pere Xirau highlighted the importance of the event for publicly recognizing the active role and contribution of the elderly to society, fostering their emotional well-being and social cohesion. He also emphasized the need to combat stereotypes and ageism, and advocated for public policies to ensure a dignified and secure old age.
A central moment was the fellowship lunch, which allowed attendees to enjoy time together in a festive atmosphere. During the meal, gifts were presented to the oldest participants. The day also included a symbolic handover of organizational responsibility to Calella, the municipality that will host the next edition.
The celebration concluded with a joint toast and a lyrical concert by Els 3 Tenors. With this second edition, the county meeting continues to establish itself as a space to foster inter-municipal relations and give visibility to the elderly as an active and essential part of community life.
