The Malgrat de Mar City Council has met with the Generalitat de Catalunya to secure more resources for municipal Social Services and enhance citizen care.

The Malgrat de Mar City Council held a working meeting this morning with the territorial services of the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The objective is to provide more technical and economic resources to the municipality's Social Services, which currently depend on the Consell Comarcal del Maresme, to achieve their autonomy and improve care.
The third deputy mayor and Councilor for Social Action, Jofre Serret, accompanied by municipal technicians, met with the director of the department's territorial services, Carme Esquirol, and the head of the social sector for Barcelonès Nord and Maresme, Laia Bonet. During the meeting, the council representatives presented the daily reality of the Social Action Department. Carme Esquirol positively assessed the council's intentions and expressed the Generalitat's commitment to collaborate.
Discussions have progressed for the Malgrat City Council, which has reached 20,719 inhabitants, to establish its own Basic Social Area and a program contract with the Generalitat. This management tool aims for a balanced relationship and shared responsibility between both administrations in the provision of social services, placing the local entity at the center of territorial management.
The program contract promotes coordination, cooperation, and collaboration in social welfare and equality policies, establishing objectives, actions, evaluation mechanisms, and funding to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of social service management.
