Malgrat de Mar has registered 199 liters per square meter due to torrential rains, causing numerous affectations in various areas of the municipality, including the Sant Genís stream and municipal facilities.

The torrential rains of the past hours have left an accumulation of 199 liters per square meter in Malgrat de Mar. Of this amount, 115 liters fell in just half an hour yesterday, Sunday, between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM. The most affected areas include the Sant Genís de Palafolls stream near the Avinguda de la Costa Brava, the parking lot of the old football field, the streets Manuel de Falla, Roger de Flor, Avinguda Barcelona, and the Passeig Marítim.
The Sant Genís stream registered 115 liters per square meter in one hour. The high volume of water caused numerous incidents on Avinguda de la Costa Brava, with trapped cars and displacement of modules from ongoing construction work.
A house on Alcalde Pedani street, located by the stream, was severely affected by the flooding, forcing the resident family, with two young children, to evacuate urgently. The City Council has arranged for the family's relocation to a tourist establishment and will cover the necessary expenses, as they have lost all their personal belongings.
The parking lot of the old football field, privately owned, was completely flooded, trapping about forty vehicles, including three coaches. Additionally, numerous private parking lots of houses and apartment communities, as well as ground floors of houses and commercial premises, have been filled with water and mud.
The Hotel Silhouette, on Roger de Flor street, had to relocate its 600 guests due to flooding in the dining room, kitchen, laundry, and the pool and bar area.
The Municipal Sports Pavilion on Avinguda Tarragona was also flooded. Thanks to the collaboration of volunteers and sports clubs APAM, CEPAM, and Club Patí Malgrat, the water was removed yesterday evening. The facility will remain closed for cleaning and repairs.
Other affected municipal facilities include the Cultural Center, the studios of Ona Malgrat, the Municipal Archive, and the La Cooperativa Library.
The Primary Care Center temporarily closed yesterday, Sunday, and the Institut Ramon Turró i Darder did not open today for cleaning tasks.
The Minister of the Presidency of the Generalitat, Albert Dalmau, accompanied by the Secretary of Local Governments, Xavier Amor, attended an emergency committee meeting. The minister expressed the Catalan government's support to the Malgrat council. They visited the Sant Genís stream as it passes through Avinguda Costa Brava.
The emergency committee of Malgrat de Mar activated the municipal brigade and cleaning companies yesterday morning, along with excavators, to clear mud and debris. These works will continue for days. The committee was formed on Saturday and remains active.
