This economic injection materialized at a critical moment during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, when hospitals and primary care were under extreme pressure. The Government's decision aimed to guarantee the response capacity of the Catalan healthcare system.
The additional 300 million euros were primarily allocated to hiring healthcare staff, purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE), and reinforcing hospital infrastructure. The goal was twofold: to improve diagnostic and treatment capacity, and to protect health professionals.
The extraordinary investment was essential to maintain the quality of care and patient safety in a context of unprecedented health emergency.
This budget reinforcement was added to other economic measures already implemented by the Generalitat since the start of the health emergency, highlighting the priority of public spending in the Department of Health during the last quarter of 2020.
