The initial surgery, a pyeloplasty, was performed by the Urology department. This week, a second surgery focusing on colon procedures is scheduled. Throughout October, Gynecology and abdominal wall surgery specialties will be progressively integrated, followed by Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) and bariatric surgery.
This new technology enables professionals to perform interventions with high precision through small incisions. The Toumai® system provides an enlarged three-dimensional view of the surgical field and great precision in movements, fully controlled by the surgeon from a console. This facilitates less invasive procedures, promoting faster recovery, reduced postoperative pain, and shorter hospital stays.
The implementation of the program involved specific training for over 60 hospital professionals, including surgeons, nurses, and anesthetists, through theoretical preparation, simulation, and hands-on training.
The integration of the Toumai® at Mataró University Hospital is part of a pioneering joint purchasing initiative involving five Catalan hospitals: Vic University Hospital, Igualada University Hospital, Terrassa University Hospital, and Calella Hospital. This collaborative acquisition has optimized resources and generated significant savings.
