This urban planning measure also flexibilizes the land-use conditions for the plot where the new facility will be built, addressing the specific requirements of such healthcare facilities. The site, located on Carretera de Cirera, was transferred by the City Council to the Servei Català de la Salut (CatSalut).
The new Intermediate Care Hospital will serve the entire Maresme Central sector. The construction of the tunnel is considered an "essential and strategic" action to ensure mobility, optimize logistical movements and patient transfers, and calm public space between the two buildings, thereby improving environmental sustainability.
The Minister of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, highlighted that the underground connection "will guarantee mobility and optimize logistical movements and patient transfers between the two centers, as well as the pacification of the public space between the buildings, which will contribute to improving environmental sustainability".
The area of action, covering a total surface of 13,432 m2, includes the plot designated for healthcare facilities and part of the Carretera de Cirera itself, beneath which the future connection between the hospital centers will be made.
