Marc Chavalera (ERC) was invested as the new Mayor of Alcanar (Montsià) this Thursday, January 9, 2026, securing seven favorable votes from his party and the PSC, taking office after the resignation of Joan Roig.
The Alcanar City Council Plenary formalized Chavalera's election, who obtained an absolute majority with the seven votes of the governing coalition. "The municipal government that continues today is the result of a government agreement signed last September, a pact achieved with responsibility and a clear willingness to put Alcanar ahead of any other consideration."
Marc Chavalera, 32, has been a councilor since 2023 and has led key departments such as Economy and Finance, Business, Trade, and Tourism. A graduate in Economics with several master's degrees, he previously served as acting mayor between February and June 2024, temporarily replacing Joan Roig during paternity leave.
In his speech, the new mayor emphasized his commitment to 'represent everyone' and to pursue a policy 'focused on people, dialogue, respect, and consensus.' Immediate objectives include approving the 2026 budget, the second phase of rainwater drainage in the school area, and hydraulic improvements in Alcanar-Platja and Les Cases.

"We trust that, from now on, the plenary sessions, as you have said, will be spaces for a much cleaner political debate and institutional respect."
Prior to the investiture, Anna Chillida Fibla also took office as a new councilor. She previously served as the Director-General for Students of the Government of Catalonia between 2022 and 2024.
