President of Club Natació Amposta dies in multi-vehicle accident on AP-7 near Vandellòs

Amposta City Council declares a day of official mourning for the death of 36-year-old Roxana Covianici, victim of the eight-vehicle collision.

A 36-year-old resident of Amposta died early Thursday morning following the multi-vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday at kilometer point 279 of the AP-7, near Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant.

The Mossos d’Esquadra received notification of the collision at 8:25 PM, an incident involving eight vehicles. The causes of the accident are still under investigation. Besides the fatality, two people were critically injured and a third seriously injured; all three were transferred to Joan XXIII Hospital.
The victim has been identified as Roxana Covianici, who served as the president of the Club Natació Amposta. Her passing has caused deep shock in the Montsià region.
The Amposta City Council announced via an institutional statement that it is declaring a day of official mourning for the death of Roxana Covianici. Consequently, all institutional events organized by the council are suspended. The council also conveyed its condolences and support to the victim's family and friends.
The Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) reports that, provisionally, with this victim, the total number of people who have lost their lives on Catalan roads during 2024 amounts to 140.
