The announcement was made during the presentation of the Recercat Awards in Pont de Suert, the host town for the 2026 edition. During the event, the Culture Councillor of the Alcanar town council and the president of the cultural association Lo Rafal highlighted the significance of the upcoming conference.
The Secretary General of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya symbolically passed the baton to the municipal representative with a Ribagorçan 'falla'. The councillor emphasized Alcanar's unique geopolitical and cultural position as the last or first town in Catalonia, noting its proximity to the Valencian Country.
“"Alcanar is the last town in Catalonia or the first, and holds undeniable value due to its proximity to the Valencian Country."
RECERCAT, an initiative by the Institut Ramon Muntaner (IRMU), operates under the motto 'Weaving cultural community' and annually brings together over 200 entities from across the Catalan Countries. Its program features conferences, debates, audiovisual screenings, exhibitions, and performances, covering topics of historical, cultural, and social interest.
These conferences serve as a meeting point for local and regional study centers and athenaeums, underscoring their crucial role in the development of Catalan culture and the shaping of the country's identity. The 2027 edition will be organized by the IRMU, the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Coordinator of Catalan-Speaking Study Centers (CCEPC), and the Federation of Athenaeums of Catalonia (FAC), in collaboration with Lo Rafal and the Alcanar Town Council.
The Associació Cultural Lo Rafal, founded in 1988 in Alcanar, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting local culture, history, and heritage. It is primarily known for publishing the local informative magazine Lo Rafal and organizing cultural activities and heritage talks in the Terres de l'Ebre.
