Amposta City Council has approved the process for the university building concession, a crucial move to introduce a Dentistry degree and attract over a million euros in investment.

The extraordinary and urgent plenary session of the Amposta City Council greenlit last Friday the administrative concession process for the private use of the university building. This decision is essential for expanding the city's educational offerings with the inclusion of a Dentistry degree.
The plan involves a public tender for the concession, allowing interested universities to submit their proposals. The project also includes an investment exceeding one million euros for the building's expansion and adaptation to meet the requirements of the new academic programs.
In exchange for the concession, an annual fee of approximately 71,000 euros has been established. This fee will be offset over the first 20 years through the construction of the building's extension, which will later become municipal property.

"The approval allows us to move forward with the «administrative regularization of the project«."

During the vote, the Esquerra group supported the initiative, while Junts per Amposta and the two non-attached councillors abstained. Som Amposta voted against it.
Following this agreement, the Amposta City Council will now commence the tender procedure. The aim is for both the facility's expansion and the new university program to be operational for the upcoming academic years. With the future Dentistry degree, Amposta would become the sole institution in the Tarragona region offering these university studies.
