The headquarters of the Territorial Services in Tortosa hosted a key information session last Friday, September 4th, for municipal representatives from the Terres de l’Ebre region. The meeting, held in a hybrid format, served to review the most relevant data for the start of the 2026/2027 school year and to strengthen collaboration between the Department of Education and Vocational Training and local administrations.
The territorial director, Mario González, thanked the attendees and introduced some of the professional team, acknowledging their dedication. The reinforcement of human resources for the region's educational centers was highlighted, with 3,135 professional positions, 71 more than the previous year. This increase includes 45 new teachers, 21 educational support professionals, and 5 administration and services staff, exceeding the corresponding population-based percentage.
Despite a slight decrease in the projected number of students (32,487), reception resources have been expanded with 9 new provisions, bringing the total to 50 reception classrooms. The meeting also emphasized the commitment to inclusion, with an increase in places at special education centers and reinforcement of educational services supporting schools and families.
Regarding learning enhancement, the reading comprehension network has been extended to 42 centers, with 16 new additions and 5 additional teachers, to boost reading comprehension and oral expression.
Investments in educational infrastructure were another central topic. The Department has allocated 655,660 euros to reform, expansion, and improvement (RAM) actions in schools, in addition to 1.56 million euros managed by Infraestructures.cat. Key projects presented include the new Institut Escola 3 d’Abril in Móra la Nova (8.1 M€) and the expansion of the Institut Roquetes (1.8 M€), as well as the energy efficiency rehabilitation of the Institut Dertosa in Tortosa (1.5 M€).
Within the framework of the Pla Actualitza Escoles, a financial cooperation program of 4,451,345 euros has been launched for RAM works in the 51 participating municipalities of Terres de l'Ebre, with 100% advance payment and specific rurality criteria to improve energy efficiency and accessibility.
Vocational training was also a focus, with the consolidation of Dual FP and the introduction of the higher-level training cycle in Transport and Logistics at the Institut Montsià in Amposta. A total of 15 educational centers are participating in Dual FP projects with 368 collaborating companies.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views, with all parties agreeing on the importance of institutional collaboration to ensure quality, inclusive public education rooted in the Terres de l'Ebre.
