Endesa has launched an improvement project for the medium-voltage power line supplying Mas de Barberans and other Montsià municipalities, with an investment of 182,000 euros.
The electricity company Endesa is undertaking a significant project to reinforce and modernize the 25 kV medium-voltage line that supplies power to Mas de Barberans and several municipalities in Montsià. This intervention was accelerated following damage caused by the strong windstorm associated with storm Oriana, which severely affected the electrical route between la Galera and Mas de Barberans on February 14.
Although the renovation was already planned after storm Alice, which also impacted the infrastructure on October 12, 2025, the intensity of the wind from Oriana severely damaged several sections of the line, causing power supply disruptions to the population. This line is crucial for the area, as it serves 1,642 customers spread across la Galera, Mas de Barberans, Godall, Santa Bàrbara, and Ulldecona.
To enhance safety and resilience, Endesa has fully replaced 30 wooden supports with new fiber supports, which are more resistant to weather conditions. Additionally, one kilometer of wiring has been renewed, and 65 additional supports have been upgraded with new insulators and repaired wind-damaged crossarms.
A notable feature of the project is that all work has been carried out using 'live-line working' techniques, meaning the line was never disconnected. This ensured uninterrupted power supply while the upgrades progressed, a particularly relevant aspect for an infrastructure serving multiple municipalities.
The investment to date amounts to 182,000 euros, entirely funded by Endesa. According to the company, the work is currently 80% complete, with further phases planned in the coming months to finalize the renovation. Pending tasks include upgrading another section of the same line, which will involve replacing seven more supports and increasing the total investment by approximately 20%.
Through this initiative, Endesa aims to strengthen the network's reliability in an area particularly exposed to intense winds and extreme weather phenomena, which have tested the resilience of the region's electrical infrastructure in recent years.

"We are very pleased that action has finally been taken. We complained for a long time. The line was very affected. We hope it will be enough to address this lack of investment over time."
“
"So far, we haven't had any power outages, but, of course, there hasn't been bad weather either. We hope it holds up when the storms of rain and wind arrive. For now, we are satisfied because action has finally been taken."
“
"I believe this network had not been sufficiently maintained and was deteriorated."
