A fire that broke out on Sunday evening in a pile of waste at the Mas de Barberans (Montsià) landfill has been declared extinguished by the Firefighters early Monday morning.

The blaze started around quarter past nine in the evening and affected an accumulation of debris approximately 100 meters long and about five meters high. The flames initially spread to an adjacent area of brush, but rapid intervention allowed the situation to be brought under control.
Six crews from the Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to douse the affected area. They were supported by machinery provided by the landfill's management company, which used earth to help extinguish the flames.
The fire was officially declared extinguished at 00:37 on Monday. Personnel from the company responsible for the landfill will remain vigilant in the area over the coming hours, conducting visual inspections to ensure no reignitions or smoldering occur.
