Facade of the Montsià Regional Hospital in Amposta.

The main opposition group in the Amposta City Council denounced this Friday the management of the Montsià Regional Hospital, pointing to a deterioration in the quality of care and the economic balance of the center.

During a press conference, representatives of Junts per Amposta analyzed the evolution of the health center over the last eleven years. The group focused on the hospital's financial situation, questioning the decisions made by the municipal government team regarding the management structure and the administration of public resources.
The municipal group criticized the increase in the number of management positions and their salaries, comparing data from 2023 with the following year. According to the group, this increase in spending occurred in a context of budget deficits, which they consider a sign of poor governance.

"If they don't know how to do better, they should step aside and let competent and experienced people take over. They cannot, under any circumstances, mortgage the future of the hospital."

The group defended the need to maintain municipal management of the center, arguing that decisions about the service should be made locally. They also expressed their opposition to any process that could lead to the loss of ownership or decision-making power over the hospital, referring to discussions about its integration into CatSalut.
Finally, the opposition called for a change in the center's leadership, advocating for professionals with experience in the Catalan public health system, SISCAT, to reverse the current situation and ensure the viability of the service for the citizens of the Montsià region.
