The incident occurred late in the afternoon when an alert was received stating that a vessel had collided with the rocks of the marina. The situation unfolded amidst very adverse maritime weather conditions.
Immediately, the Maritime Salvage unit, the Salvamar Achernar, and two fire crews from the Ulldecona and one from Amposta stations were mobilized. Emergency teams managed to reach the occupant via the rocks, where his wife was waiting. The pet was also safely recovered.
The vessel was left partially submerged as a result of the collision. This incident occurred on a day with several calls for help received by Maritime Salvage in the area, including incidents with swimmers in distress in Cunit and Altafulla, as well as problems with other vessels such as catamarans and kayaks in La Ràpita and L'Ampolla.
An alert was also received about a sailboat with a broken sail near a campsite in Alcanar, although it was determined not to be a vessel in distress, as it was a sailboat that had been stranded in the Bahía del Alfacs for months. Other alerts included a sailboat with problems in Roda de Berà and three children experiencing difficulties in Cunit, who were eventually able to leave the water on their own.
