The Convention of Regional and Local Press, organized by the Catalan Association of Regional Press (ACPC), highlighted the need to support publications that are edited in Catalan. The meeting brought together directors and editors from media outlets across the region, including the director of SEGRE, Anna Sàez.
The association, which groups 171 local and regional publications edited in Catalan, emphasized the importance of these media for the normalization and promotion of the language, as well as for strengthening social and cultural cohesion from the territory.
Another key focus of the day was the role of proximity media in the face of the proliferation of fake news. The president of the Catalan Information Council (CIC), Josep Carles Rius, stated that regional press is the "first line of defense against disinformation" and advocated for the relevance of the new code of ethics to combat falsehoods.
Journalist Francesc Canosa added that "localism is the new globalism," championing the function of territorial media to cover stories that often fall outside the agenda of major media outlets and to give voice to realities far from decision-making centers.
During the convention, Larsson was also presented, a new artificial intelligence tool designed for media organizations, capable of transcribing content in various languages and organizing information.
