The city of Vic has welcomed 7,132 children and young people aged 0 to 16 for the start of the 2026-2027 academic year. The figures include 6,730 students from I3 to 4th year of ESO across early childhood, primary, secondary, and special education, plus 402 infants aged 0 to 3 enrolled in municipal and subsidized nursery schools.
The Vic City Council has outlined the new academic year's work plans, emphasizing education as a key priority for municipal action. Mayor Albert Castells highlighted the need to equip the educational system with necessary resources to address social and demographic challenges, and underscored the council's commitment to improving and maintaining educational centers.
During the summer, the Urban Services Network carried out work in 14 educational facilities, with an investment of 200,000 euros. These improvements include interventions in schools, nursery schools, and other centers, with notable work at Escola Andersen (36,800 euros) and Escola Doctor Salarich (16,800 euros), as well as at Guillem de Montrodon, La Sínia, Vic Centre, and Sentfores schools, and the municipal nursery schools Horta Vermella, Caputxins, and Serra Sanferm.
The Councilor for Welfare and Family, Núria Homs, presented family support measures, including aid for schooling and work-life balance. Last year, over 2,000 students benefited from these grants.
Regarding early childhood education, 402 infants aged 0 to 3 are enrolled in Vic. The Councilor for Education, Elisabet Franquesa, announced updates to the Espai Familiar 0-3 (Family Space 0-3), including a new mobile service to bring resources closer to families.
