The Town Council of Sant Quirze de Besora received on Thursday, October 22nd, the ALEO 2026 Award for Pioneering Action, presented by the Osona Local Energy Agency (ALEO), for the public recovery project of the Can Trinxet water mill for hydroelectric power generation.

This award recognizes the municipality's initiative as the first in Catalonia to recover a historic infrastructure of this nature for the public sector, putting it back into service for renewable energy production. The Can Trinxet hydroelectric plant is currently managed by L’Energètica, the public energy company of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The award highlights the vision of energy transition based on the public recovery of strategic infrastructures, sustainable use of territorial resources, and local energy generation. Sant Quirze de Besora competed with other municipalities in the region such as Prats de Lluçanès (photovoltaic energy in sports facilities), Santa Eulàlia de Riuprimer (presence sensors in public lighting), and Tona (energy transformation of the town hall building).
The second edition of the ALEO Awards, held in Orís, also recognized Orís (under 2,000 inhabitants) for reducing consumption by 15.4% and Seva (over 2,000 inhabitants) for a 5.3% reduction. During the event, an assessment of energy activities in Osona was presented, which currently has 235 executed self-consumption photovoltaic installations.
The president of the Osona Regional Council, Marçal Ortuño, and the CEO of ALEO, Albert Marcé, emphasized the importance of municipal collaboration in facing the challenges of energy transition. The Sant Quirze de Besora Town Council views this recognition very positively, as it rewards years of work and encourages continued efforts in renewable energy and sustainability projects.
