The Feminist Collective of Pallars Jussà has warned about the critical situation in sexual and reproductive health care in the Pallars and Alta Ribagorça regions, where there is only one midwife for 24,000 inhabitants.

The organization has issued a statement describing the current coverage of midwives from the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) in all Primary Care Centers (CAP) in the area as "critical and unsustainable." According to the collective, the presence of a single professional is insufficient to guarantee a dignified service to the population.
The complaint highlights the disproportion between available resources and the demographic and geographical reality of the region. A single midwife must cover the needs of approximately 24,000 inhabitants, distributed among Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà, and Alta Ribagorça. This situation is exacerbated by the territory's extension, covering 3,147 km², characterized by dispersed urban centers and high mountain terrain that makes travel difficult.
This staff shortage has two main consequences: the precarious working conditions for professionals, who are overwhelmed and under unsustainable pressure, and the direct impact on users, who face waiting lists of up to three months. The statement also indicates that attempts to reinforce with hospital staff are not an effective solution, as they are not part of their specific functions and fail to cover the needs of primary care.

"Sexual and reproductive health is a fundamental right that should not depend on the place of residence. Rural regions always receive the crumbs."

the Feminist Collective of Pallars Jussà
The Feminist Collective of Pallars Jussà asserts that sexual and reproductive health is a right, not an urban privilege. The organization demands definitive solutions from the Alt Pirineu i Aran Health Region and calls on the competent administrations for "answers, solutions, and actions" to reverse this situation, which they consider a comparative grievance compared to urban areas.
