Yesterday, Thursday, September 17th, the exhibition Cities in Transit. Rethinking to regenerate opened at the Palau Robert in Barcelona. The exhibition reflects on how cities can reclaim and repurpose everyday spaces.
Promoted by the Department of Territory and the Presidency of the Generalitat de Catalunya, as part of World Architecture Capital Barcelona 2026, the exhibition features five medium-sized Catalan cities: Balaguer, Berga, Palamós, Tremp, and Valls.
In the case of Tremp, the focus is on Plaça Catalunya, a central municipal space chosen to propose adaptations for current citizen needs and reinforce its role as a meeting point.
The project presented is the result of work considering various aspects of the square, but especially the perspective of its users. Last November, Tremp hosted the participatory event Inclusive Cities, organized by the Architecture Service of the Department of Territory, to gather ideas for the future of Plaça Catalunya.
The exhibition offers a perspective on how cities can approach urban transformation using existing spaces, valuing identity, heritage, and people's needs.
The exhibition can be visited for free at the Palau Robert until January 8th, 2027. During the first half of 2027, it will also tour the Catalan Architects Association (COAC) branches in Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona.
