A natural gas leak led to the precautionary evacuation of residents from two apartment blocks at numbers 2 and 6 on Avinguda de la Vall d'Àssua, in Rialp, on Saturday afternoon.

The Bombers de la Generalitat (Generalitat Firefighters) received the alert at 1:50 PM due to an intense smell of gas, initially detected in a sixth-floor apartment. Three fire crews and several patrols from the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) were dispatched to the scene. As a safety measure, residents were evacuated from the aforementioned buildings, and number 4 was also inspected.
According to municipal information, the cause of the minor leaks might be related to the age of the building's gas installations. While technicians from the supply company worked to shut off connections and neutralize the risk, affected residents were temporarily housed at the Hotel Condes del Pallars.
Furthermore, the Club Esportiu Vall d'Àssua and the Rialp Town Council offered their changing rooms and showers to residents to meet their basic needs until the service was restored.
After more than three hours of intervention, residents were able to return to their homes around 5:20 PM. They were instructed to continue without gas supply until a certified installer repaired the fault. The incident was resolved without any personal injuries.
