Sports such as rafting, kayaking, and canyoning are experiencing growing demand, particularly during the early weeks of August, which are consolidating as the peak activity period of the year, surpassing even July. Forecasts point towards a record season if favorable weather conditions persist.
According to sector data, active tourism companies in Lleida anticipated exceeding 840,000 contracted activities this year, with water sports accounting for 44.5% of the total.
Florido Dolcet, president of the adventure sports companies association, highlighted the abundance of water resources thanks to a winter with substantial snow reserves and generous spring melt. Although some canyons in the southern part of the region have seen reduced flow due to the heat, the northern area maintains sufficient reserves for activities.
Activities at reservoirs, such as La Torrassa in Guingueta d'Àneu, are particularly popular among families. Júlia Rabanera, a technician at the company Roc Roi, notes that demand remains high throughout August, with significant peaks on the hottest days.
Other tourist sectors are also experiencing high visitor numbers. Aigüestortes National Park is one of the most visited areas, with excursions to Sant Maurici, Ratera, or Amitges being favorites. This period marks the annual peak attendance for the natural park.
In Espot, a rock and tree landslide has forced the closure of half of the Prat de Pierró parking area (100 spaces). The taxi service, however, is operating normally and experiencing considerable workload.
The Mont-rebei gorge, a key point in the Alt Pirineu region, is also receiving a notable influx of visitors for its nautical activities, with positive booking figures.
The Montfalcó walkways in the Mont-rebei gorge are temporarily closed due to a rockfall caused by recent storms. However, the navigable area, including the main gorge passage, remains open for kayak routes.
The Tourism Board of the Provincial Council of Lleida expects to welcome nearly 50,000 visitors between Friday and Sunday, aiming to match or exceed the figures from last year's holiday bridge. Hotel occupancy is between 90% and 100%, while bungalows and campsites are also reporting near-full capacity.
