Hiker Dies After Fall in Port de Medacorba, Alins

A hiker died this Saturday afternoon after a fall in the Port de Medacorba, in the municipality of Alins, in an area near the border with France.

A hiker died this Saturday afternoon after a fall in the Port de Medacorba, within the municipality of Alins. The accident occurred in a mountainous area very close to the border with France and Andorra.
Emergency services received the alert about the incident at 15:01, reporting that a person had fallen an estimated 100 meters.
The Generalitat Firefighters deployed a rescue operation involving a helicopter and members of the Special Actions Support Group (GRAE). Unfortunately, upon arrival, rescue professionals located the victim but could not save their life due to the severity of the injuries.
In the same operation, firefighters had to rescue the two companions who had raised the alarm. Both were safely transported out of the accident zone.
Officers from the Mossos d’Esquadra also attended the scene. They are responsible for the custody of the body, victim identification, and the subsequent police and judicial investigations to determine the causes of the fall.
